Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessments
Understand the bushfire exposure relevant to your proposed building. We assess the site and prepare the agreed BAL documentation for your project team.

When this service helps
When your building proposal requires a bushfire assessment, site-specific information helps establish the relevant BAL. The assessment scope depends on your site, proposal and applicable requirements.
What you receive
BAL assessment documentation for the proposed building and agreed assessment pathway. Depending on the agreed scope, this includes:
The assessed building position and site information
Relevant vegetation, separation and effective slope information
The assessment result, assumptions and agreed documentation
Your questions, answered
Does being in a mapped bushfire-prone area tell me my BAL?
No. The mapped designation and the site-specific BAL serve different purposes. A planning assessment under a Bushfire Management Overlay may also be a separate requirement.
What should I send with my enquiry?
Send your site address, proposed works, available plans or reports, access details and preferred timing. You can enquire before all plans are available.
When can the work be arranged?
Tell us your preferred timing and any access constraints. We’ll confirm the site visit and reporting timeframes for the agreed work before it begins.
Planning the assessment
Send the site address, proposed building location and available plans. Planning controls and bushfire construction requirements can involve different assessments; we confirm the service you need.
